WATER IS LIFE
Children can't go to school because they need to collect water for their families every single day.
Living Without Water is Impossible
Over 1 billion people lack access to drinking water, and 3 million children die each year due to the lack of clean water. Additionally, 60 million children are unable to attend school because they have to fetch water every day.
A single water well not only provides clean drinking water but also creates an average of 106 jobs and enables about 16 children to attend school, as they no longer need to fetch water every day.
Digging a Borehole in Africa and Its Alignment with SDGs
Digging a borehole in Africa directly aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Firstly, it supports SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation by providing communities with access to safe and affordable drinking water. This, in turn, promotes SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by reducing waterborne diseases and improving overall health. Furthermore, the availability of clean water allows children, especially girls, to attend school instead of spending hours collecting water, thereby supporting SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 5: Gender Equality. Additionally, the creation of jobs through borehole projects contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, fostering economic stability and community development.
IN A NUTSHELL
Access to a water well allows children, especially girls, to attend school regularly instead of spending hours collecting water.
With more consistent school attendance, children have better opportunities for learning and academic achievement.
The construction and maintenance of a water well create employment opportunities, providing jobs for local community members.
The availability of clean water supports local agriculture and small businesses, fostering economic development and stability.
Reduced waterborne diseases improve overall community health, leading to fewer sick days and better productivity for both students and workers.
By alleviating the burden of water collection, women and girls can pursue education and employment opportunities, contributing to gender equality and economic empowerment.
